Back in the 70's I drank a fair share of Boone's Farm Apple Wine!

That makes two of us, Hooty! I started college in 1971…need I say more? BFAW was the favorite of all the hippies on campus. And I get a blinding headache just thinking about it.

My husband makes balloon wine. It's pretty good too. Don't think he's made apple wine. I'd rather have apple Schnapps or peach Schnapps.

Sounds great! I love apple and pear ciders, would the wine be similar but without the carbonation?

Re: Has anyone made wine out of apples?

I haven't made it but I buy it and drink in place of traditional wine made from grapes. I live in New Hampshire and there is a great orchard here called Farnum Hill and they bottle and sell it through New England and I think now even into New York and New Jersey. It is light and crisp and a great alternative to any white wine.

Re: Has anyone made wine out of apples?

A little off-topic, but I ran across this recipe yesterday on thewholesomedish.com for caramel apple sangria and thought ya'll might be interested:

Amanda Finks
Recipe type: Cocktail
Serves: 10 - 11
Prep time:5 mins
Total time:5 mins
Ingredients
  • 1 750 ml bottle of pinot grigio (or your favorite mild white wine)
  • 1 cup caramel flavored vodka
  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 2 medium apples, cored and chopped
Instructions
  1. Stir the wine, vodka, and apple cider together in a large pitcher.
  2. Add the chopped apples to the pitcher, or to individual glasses.
  3. Serve the sangria over ice.
Notes
Apple cider settles. If the sangria sits for a while, it will need to be stirred before serving.

I was a freshman in college in 1970 and when I read this thread, the very first thing that I thought of was Boone's Farm. Got sick on that many a time. LOL!

Re: Has anyone made wine out of apples?

Many years ago, I bought some unpasteurized cider. I forgot about it, then one day I was cleaning out Mr Fridge-the cider was all the way in the back. I didn't think it could possibly be good, but as I was pouring it down the drain, I caught a whiff....dare I try it? I did-and got quite tipsy!!! It tasted like champagne! Poodlepet
