after being served hockey pucks at a restaurant I decided come Sat.

I was gonna eat my own food. Mashed potatoes was cold, gravy was cold, chicken fried steak was ok. I'd been ashamed to had served those rolls. At least mine you can bite into I could had used theirs for a baseball.

Re: Hard rolls in restaurant

I love hard rolls but I break them into pieces I can bite.  Don't bite directly into the whole roll.  You'll have crumbs all over for one thing.

Hard rolls are hard to find West of the Mississippi.   (I LOVE rye rolls with a rock salt crust.)

Re: Hard rolls in restaurant

Have eaten out  lately and seems some things are not the same at the restaurants . Guess, some places are lucky to just get the food on the plates . I check closely to makesure my  chicken  is done . Before covid many places had serving staff that really didn't care what type of service they provided as they were sure the mass of people were just going to leave an obligatory 15-20% tip . People used to perform over and above their job duties to be tipped  just like people who worked for various corporations  , companies  and  Federal  jobs to receive bonuses .  Any way, I'm a very good cook , so  eating at home is great as long as I have some help with cleanup.

The few times we have eaten out lately it does seems like the quality of the food has gone down.  Unfortunately I don't enjoy cooking much -- the planning, shopping, prep work, cooking, clean up.

The resturants I go to have been as good as usual.  I also review on Trip Advisor but they don't know that.

Huh.   I would have politely asked my server to take them back and bring back something else, explaining to them why it was necessary.  Therre's also nothing wrong with asking them to heat up my dish, as the food was cold.  JMO of course.

@Tinkrbl44

When I go out for breakfast and order eggs, I always check the temperature of the toast when it's brought to the table.  If it's almost cool to the touch, I immediately request the server to bring fresh, hot toast.

Sometimes they slather on extra butter as though that will re-warm the toast !

as soon as they put the food down, I ask them to hold on for a second.....too many times I got stuck with " bricks " for toast.  No more.....
