Hamkey, with all the trimmings!

My turkey breasts arrived from Honey Baked Ham. I opened them this morning. They taste delicious, but I honestly can't tell if it's turkey or ham. I'm going to call it Hamkey and carry on as if nothing is unusual.......

Enjoy, @house_cat!  We're having chicken with jar turkey gravy and (gasp!) STOVE TOP STUFFING.  I've never made it before.  Maybe I'll mix some rice in.

I still have to go to the store to get the "fixin's".  Another travesty, I know.  The old arthritis is screaming today - at least I'll get out and about and moving.  It's 31 degrees here.

Cheers!🥃 Happy Hamkey Day!

I like using boxed stuffing mix.

I take some dried cranberries and add them to the water that's needed to make the stuffing and I let them plump up and rehydrate for a bit before following the rest of the directions for making the stuffing.

They add a nice additional flavor to the stuffing, I think. Smiley Happy

Happy Hamkey day. May your guests enjoy the delicious meal you have prepared.

I asked DH if he would like homemade stuffing. Nope, he wants Stovetop. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Love stove top stuffing, especially the herb flavored one. I always add about 1/4 cup or weenie bit more than 1/4 of water than called for, cause I like it a touch more moist.

Re: Hamkey, with all the trimmings!

Oh by the way, today just one son, his girfriend and her son and me at my house. Son ordered everything from Boston Market from a boneless turkey breast to a whole bunch of sides, creamed spinach/corn/stuffing/mashed potatoes/mac & cheese/ gravy/ cornbread/dinner rolls. They have a special thanksgiving menu you order ahead. Beautifully done, beautifully packaged up with excellent thorough directions on reheating by oven/stove/microwave. All in a nice big sturdy box I could use for storage. He ordered sizes for 6 to 8 people. Plenty of food, no doubt even some leftovers. I've tasted it all, mmmm good.

It's funny how hard it can be to tell turkey breast from ham.  I've noticed it before with deli turkey and deli ham.

Re: Hamkey, with all the trimmings!

@house_cat I was inspired by your other thread and decided to order a turkey breast from Honey Bake Ham.  I scheduled to pick it up yesterday evening since they're closed today.  I don't know why, but I thought it would be warm--maybe because of the "ready to eat" packaging labels--so I was surprised it was cold.  There were no instructions about heating, so I went on their website and they advised serving at room temperature.  I put it in a pan and wrapped with foil and heated it up.  Very tasty but I don't think I'd want it room temp for the main meal.  For sandwiches maybe, but not with the stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc.

Did you get any of their side dishes?  I also ordered the broccoli casserole, and it was good.  Gone in a flash!

Just 2 of us.......small turkey breast in the air fryer, jar gravy, stove top stuffing, cranberry sauce from a can, roasted green beans, roasted broccoli and small butternut squash halved and microwaved.

I saute lots of diced carrots, onions and celery and then mix it into the Stove Top stuffing and bake it.

Everybody raved about it and when I made TOGO bags, everyone requested stuffing. Go figure.

I was not happy with the texture of the HB turkey.  You could cut it with a fork, but it had a phony, processed texture to it.  I don't eat a lot of meat and I'm always sensitive to the texture of it, so my critique may be unwarranted, but I won't be ordering from them again.  No one complained, everyone had some, but I have LOTS leftover, so I'd better figure out a way to make it work.  Most likely, I'll freeze it in small batches and have it for lunch sandwiches until Christmas... maybe longer.  I bought two, 3 pound breasts for 10 people and more than half is left over.

A few years ago, I had to cook Thanksgiving dinner at my house and transport it to my mom and dad's senior apartment.  They were in their 90s and both had problems chewing, so I bought two pounds of Boar's Head low-salt turkey breast, sliced at the deli.  It was delicious. If I wind up "cheating" again next year and not cooking my own turkey, I think I'll go with the Boar's Head again.
