Don's forget the ham salad sandwiches from the leftovers.  Especially delicious in winter putting them on slider rolls anxd in foil then in the oven to warm them!   With or without a slice of cheese

Re: Ham Help Needed

@coffee drinker

I am the exception here.

Yes I have slow cooked the ham and had to use foil to cover the crock pot.

My family likes  ham to be very well cooked and a tad dryer and any  fat melted away. The ham came out really good.  There are many directions on the internet on how to and the amount of hours.

Either way, make sure you have it cut side down when you start roasting it so the juices roll towards the cut, which is where it will leak juice if you have that part exposed. The hams are best gently warmed to melt the fat and hydrate the meat, so baking/cooking isn't required. I would do it in the oven with a beer or pineapple juice or coke/dr. pepper. All three make a great ham.

We celebrated Christmas with the family last weekend. I got a Honeybaked Ham. It specifically says on the instructions for best results to serve at room temperature. It also says that if you do want to warm it, just warm a few slices at a time. They really don't recommend warming at all. My mom always served our ham at room temperature so I do the same. Everyone went ga-ga over my Christmas ham. It sure was yummy!

Did mine in slow cooker last year. Best ham I ever cooked. I get the spiral sliced and place it face down in the slow cooker with some maple syrup mixed with a little water poured over. On low for about 2 to 3 hours. Good Lord it's tender, moist and delicious.

You know what really freaks me out about some holiday hams, are the canned hams.  LIke the one used in the movie Christmas with the Cranks.  Ham in a tin....that freaks this country girl out...give me a real hog, fresh kill or smoked every day over a moulded, tin shaped ham.  That is scary!  I'm still a bit freaked by canned pumpkin.  We have always grown our own pumpkins for our pies, so I was grown before I even knew canned pumpkin existed let alone what you do with it.  I asked a lady in the grocery store, and she looked at me like I was crazy and said pie.  She asked what I used, so I told her pumpkins from the garden.  I guess growing up poor farmers was a privileged after all.  We knew exactly where 90% or more of our food came from....heck some of it even had names.

I found that heating the fully cooked ham for the duration on the package makes it dry.  I would cut the baking time per pound info. in half.
