Well, I made the traps using water bottles and wine, put them in the kitchen, bathroom, and pantry, and they help to some degree - it's not as bad as it was - there are still a few and actually the cats' water bowls seem to kill more of them than anything else!
I've also taken the fruit out the hanging basket I have in the kitchen and put it in the refrigerator - one lemon in the pile was starting to go bad, and that might have attracted a lot of them. These things seem to appear every summer - it's a mystery how they seem to come out of nowhere!

Well, they're pretty much gone - I found the best "bait" to catch them purely by accident!
I drink only lactose-free milk, and every so often I put some out for the kitties as a special treat, especially after the container has been open for a few days and I have to use it up. I gave them some last night, and when I got up today I found that there was a bit of milk left on the bottom of one of the bowls...but you could hardly see it for all the dead fruit flies in it.
So, if I see any more I know what will work to get rid of them.
