Always hated grocery shopping.

Even though some of the prices are higher than grocery stores, I justify using it because I don't eat out, go to the movies, drive around using gas, or do other activities that add up.  So, all of us choose how we want to spend our money.

Began using it when I hurt my leg and couldn't walk on it for 3 months.  I was hooked.

I have used Peapod about 1 1/2 years for fresh foods.  Walmart about 10 years for non-perishibles that are shipped to me in one or two days.  I love both.

Peapod delivers from a local grocery store.  Always have been happy.  Often I stock up on bargains that are lower than Walmart and nearby grocery stores.  Peapod accepts coupons.  Delivery is $7.95 if you spend $60, but they offer so many free delivery specials, I only paid that maybe three times since I have been using them.  I shop one or two times a month.

They also offer $99 delivery for a year with 3 months free delivery to start if you sign up.  I don't use it because I've done better with their other free delivery specials.

Peapod also offers $5 - $10 off your order sometimes if you shop before a certain date.  Usually, it's 4-6 weeks.  Also, if you choose a certain day and time for delivery, they give up to a $5.00 discount.  So, if I take advantage of all the specials and coupons, I have saved up to $40 on one order in the past.  It usually ends up even or not spending much more than if I went to a grocery store.

Peapod doesn't have the vast selection of foods found in grocery stores, but I asked for a few things and they began carrying them. I also think what is carried depends on the grocery store they work with.

I still go to the grocery store occasionally, but not liking it at all when I'm there.

We have some food delivery services here that deliver within an hour or so which means you can order perishables.  My working kids  use it.  I keep it in mind for a situation where I may not be able to get to the store if ill, etc.  I did use one store once each time I had surgery and it worked out well.   I think the prices are higher, but if you can't get to the store it would be worth it.    I also buy non-perishables through Target along with household items.  Their delivery has improved a lot and is free over $25. and 5% off with a Target credit card.   If anything isn't in good order when it arrives, you just reply and they either send a replacement or give you a credit for the item.  Two day delivery now and sometimes it can be ordered for same day delivery.

@x Hedge I feel the same way. Add the waiting for the delivery, added tip and hope they picked good produce. Unless sick or insanely busy, it's easier to do it myself.

I order all the time. I usually order from Albertsons/Safeway but have tried Whole Foods and Amz prime too. Haven't tried QFC yet. Most times things go well but there have been times when I have had to get $$ back from wrong items or things that I didnt order or bruised and mushy stuff--always get my $$ back.  I order some fresh veggies/fruit, like spuds and bananas and such  but I try to go pick those out myself. the meats are fine too. Frozen stuff is frozen when I get it --and refrigerator items are cold too. I think I actually spend less as there is not anything to tempt me. Also get coupon deals, free items and gas savings-----saves me from trying to lug home the heavy things like milk and canned stuff. Cost me about $8 for that service.

I use Walmart pick up service and enjoy doing my shopping that way.  I find that the meat and produce ordered was excellent.  Only once did I not like what was selected and I got my money refunded and a coupon for $10.00 off my next order.

I've been tempted to Try Schwans delivery for frozen items but now that I can see the sodium content in the items, I've changed my mind!

I have ordered online & picked up my groceries at Wal-Mart. It sure saves me time plus I don't come home ticked off after being inside the store. LOL!!!

Now that our gun laws have changed so you can carry a gun on your person with no knowledge how to use it makes me not want to go out anymore. I'm not going to be there when the shooting starts because someone got mad. Ridiculous IMO. This is not the old west so nobody should be able to carry a gun unless you are law enforcement.

Safeway has home delivery here. I've used it twice when I hurt my back.

You can use coupons. There are always specials going for free delivery or money off a total order and tipping is NOT allowed. I give the delivery guy a bottle of water and they are always happy to take it. They carry the bags into the house for me.

I've been happy with the service.

I hear the complaint that consumers worry about their "produce" not being up to par from grocery delivery.  I have been using a service for a long time and have never encountered anything but great produce and even meats on occasion.  They have been a life saver for me in the past, and I continue to use them.  Not all places will give you the sale item but others do.  I love this convenience and luxury that it affords me and other consumers.

Thanks everyone for your replies. This had been a real eye opener.

I know store chains vary by area. Some of you mentioned stores that aren't available where I am.

But the total cost, perks, level of service, and overall satisfaction you cite is what stands out to me.

If I'm not mistaken, you have delivery to your home and have dealt with tipping.

I always feel so awkward about tipping, so I usually feel I either under or over tipped.

Do you tip in cash, or add it to your bill total so no money is exchanged at your home?

Do you tip a percentage of the total? Or consider how far & fast they brought it, and the number of items shopped?

Thanks in advance for your tips! (groan!)

@aunt bea  Schwans does have a line called LiveSmart which is healthier. I order from them twice a month.
