Green Gobbler Drain cleaner - how long?

For those that have tried the Green Gobbler drain cleaner, how long do you leave it in (after activating) but before rinsing out?

And, how much water do you usually use to activate it?

Looking to use it in kitchen drain.  (Not a garbage disposal - just basic kitchen drain)

Thanks!

Re: Green Gobbler Drain cleaner - how long?

Just be aware of the  caustic affects drain cleaners can have.

When we bought our home, the previous owners used something caustic in all the drains.  All the chrome was eaten off the sink drains down to the brass.  We had to replace all the drains.

I don't know what they used, but (IMO) you are much better off trying a snake drain opener first along with very hot water to clear the drain.  If that doesn't work, then call a plumber...just my experience with the subject....Good luck  ...

With my experience I have used Dollar General Gel drain cleaner, it works extremely well and is inexpensive.  Gel goes down drain and does not ruin the chrome around the drain.  I have even used it to help keep a clogged toilet running good also.

I open the package and pour it down the drain.  I immediately flush it with hot water.  I let the water run for a minute or so.

Re: Green Gobbler Drain cleaner - how long?

I pour as little hot water on it as I can, just enough to get it down the drain, not sitting on top of the strainer.  I let it sit at least overnight, longer if I can, then pour an entire teakettle of boiling water down the drain.  I've found if I only give it an hour, it doesn't work at all to clean the drain.  I used my last packet a couple of weeks ago, after I bathed my dog, and I don't plan to buy more, I'm going to get something more powerful.

@CamilleP, hot water activates it.  You should pour the hot water down the drain as soon as you put the powder in

Remember draino? I was a teenager & my parents had that on a shelf but draino was in a tin can back then. One day my Dad saw foam coming out of the bottom of the can. It sat on the shelf for years and he said if this stuff can eat threw it's tin container what is it doing to the pipes? LOL no more draino for him.
