Ha...I tried the dawn in my vinegar and....IT WORKED!!! Thanks so much GoKat.

Last year we had them...drove me crazy (not fruit flies) I tried the apple cider w drop of dawn - cover with Saran Wrap & poke holes in wrap.
I swear I had them everywhere (meaning traps) so after no luck I called my exterminator. He came in and he saw what I was talking about (saved one) -- guess what not from fruit BUT from the dirt in this plant I had for a long time. Took that plant & dumped it.
Havent seen a gnat yet! Check to see if you have any old plants w/old dirt. Good luck they can drive one crazy!

I wanted to report on the gnat situation!!!
I have been using the suggestion of apple cider vinegar and dish washing liquid and I am happy to report that it works!!!!
DH was like --- what are you doing??? -- when he saw me preparing a small bowl -- and I told him what I had read, just shook his head.
It is so nice not to have those blasted little things buzzing around!
Thank you so much!!!!! ![]()

I just now made me a small bowl also after reading this thread. Yes, I have them too. I also have bananas sitting out.
BTW, DH calls them gnats and I call them fruit flies. Are they the same thing?

Fruit flys look reddish. Gnats are black.

Yes I have been fighting the battle of the gnats for over a month. I have a pest control that comes once a month and he told me to put bleach down all traps. Huh doing my own pest control...well that didn't work. They are so annoying and cannot figure where they come from, just appear. Very annoying. Definitely gnats and not fruit flies. The worse is eating and one flies on the plate.

I guess we have gnats then. I don't think I have ever seen a fruit fly? I guess I should google it.
I can't wait to go home and see if I caught any in my vinegar/soap concoction. LOL

I think the reason I have gnats is from the plants belonging to the neighbors in my building.
I tried the home remedy, it catches on or two, that's it.
I ended up buying the traps and they really do work.
Plus I feel like I'm less likely to accidentally hit it and it spills all over.

I put the little bowl right beside where the bananas are and it is working! I am amazed!!!

@AngelPuppy1 I caught 4 myself! Yay! I did the same, right by the bananas. BTW, I think mine are fruit flies. They are red or brown, not black at all.
