Want to try to put a trail mix together and I think I need to add some garlic salt to it. Would you say, for a bag, ziplock for instance, would about 1/4 of a tsp. be about right? If I fill the bag with other crunchy things? Or do you think more would work. It's like mild not hot taco sauce. Or, start out low and add to it. That's probably best.

Are you thinking of a Chex Mix type of situation?
Garlic powder usually works best when it’s baked onto
something or mixed into a dish where it can...’melt’...into the dish.
Using it like salt, like shaking it on a carrot stick..can be really
overpowering. IMO. I think you’re on the right track, tho!

I remember most trail mix spice recipes that do call for tossing the trail mix in an oil seasoned with those spices and baked on. I remember this for the little packets of Chex mix seasoning that would come in the cereal boxes and other recipes of trail mix that I've done that are seasoned and not just stuff tossed into a bag like M & Ms, peanuts, pretzels, etc, but an oil that is infused with the seasoning and then tossed with the bits and baked around 350 for 20 minutes or so stirring frequently.

Unless you want the extra salt, I prefer to use garlic powder as well. Lots of flavor no added sodium.

@qualitygalDo not know if you are familiar with a spice called"' slap your mama" I think it would do well in a chex mix but use sparingly. It had its origin in cajun country. I learned about it from a coworked that lived in New Orleans for several years. I found it recently in my local walmart for the first time, but I have seen it online before. It is a mix of salt, pepper( black and red) and garlic. I sprinkle a liitle on meats, vegies rtc from time to time.
I know most chex recipes call for worcestershire sauce, but if you are looking for something different, you may want to give it a try. Anybody else here use slap your mama?
