@beach-mom   You started an interesting thread here.  I'm curious, what brand of hot dog rolls is it that you've found and like?

@Libbylady   Would you share your recipe for the bread pudding?  I talked to someone just this week who told me she made a bread pudding out of hot dog rolls.  She was going to e-mail the recipe but hasn't done it yet.  Thanks.

Re: Freezing Hot Dog Rolls

[ Edited ]

Honeybit, I'm sorry to tell you that I rarely use a recipe when I cook.  I think of a recipe as a "suggestion", and wing it!

Basically I use torn up hot dog rolls, eggs, milk or half & half, cinnamon, vanilla, raisins or currents (if I have any).  Bake it at 350 and when it looks toasty, and a knife comes  out almost clean, it's done.

I used to make it for my boys for breakfast and also for dessert.  They didn't die.

beach-mom, Cut the extra buns in pieces and freeze them like that, and use them to make stuffing.

Whatnow, I wish that the bread company would make hamburg and hotdog buns like frozen bread dough and that way we could only use what we need once we baked them off.Great Idea? I think so!!

@Honeybit - They are Ballpark "Tailgating" rollls. They come in about three or four kinds. I get the hot dog ones and the round sesame ones. DH claims they're better than the regular ones! Smiley Happy

I remember Mom freezing loaves of bread.

The key is no air...and slow thaw.

She would su*k the air out, twist the top & tape it up.

She was a Human Foodsaver of sorts! Ha

Maybe the breads are just made differently these days?

@Libbylady  Thanks for telling me how you go about it.  I totally understand about the "I don't really have a recipe" -- my mom cooked the same way.  I only have some of her recipes because my dad helped me get stuff out of her hand and measure it before she added it to the bowl.

We used to toast and butter the extra buns (that is, toast them, butter them, and then put them back under the broler to "toast the butter in") and have those with breakfast.  I'm going to try the bread pudding.

@beach-mom  - Thanks.  I'll look for those.  I've seen Ballpark franks but not the buns.  I'll check their website for a source.
