I buy free range organic eggs. Hubby likes them better and hopefully the chickens are treated better. I'm not so sure that means they are actually free to roam the pasture though. I used to have a girl at my skating rink bring me eggs from their farm. They had what they termed Pastured chickens. They were kept in something resembling a mesh tent that they moved around to different locations within the pasture. Besides protecting the chickens from predators, I think it kept them from laying their eggs somewhere where they might not be found.

I only buy free range. Years ago someone brought me to a chicken place. I walked in and immediately walked out. Aside from the stench - had to be thousands of chickens there - cramped together so they could not move! One chicken looked me in the eye - I felt so bad, had to run out. How could human beings be so cruel and unkind to another living creature!
That's my reason for only buying free-range! Last week eggs were on special, eighty-eight cents - I would not buy and gladly paid over four dollars. I will go without before I support harsh, mean, inhumane conditions. Imho, it's not about taste, don't remember the difference - it's about concern and treating another living creature well.
If everyone bought free-range, it would put these despicable "warehouses" out of business.

Just be sure you are not getting fertilized eggs. We have a friend who was giving us eggs from his chickens that have the run of about two acres. He obviously picked one up that had been hidden out in the grass as there was a chicken inside. It took me six months before I could eat another egg. Now they all come from the store.
