Well, there are some Paula Deen-isms I used to hear but they were just wrong.  For example when she refers to 'confectioner's sugar' she calls it 'confectionate sugar'.

@chickenbutt

I'm surprised PD doesn't call it "confederate sugar."

@Mothertrucker

I visited their outlet in Salinas on our way through last summer and asked about this.  They had the saddest collection of items.  They told me that was all they carried.

Now, you have to understand.. in NY, Entenman's is BIG!  We used to visit the factory (if that's the right word) on Long Island. They had HUNDREDS of items.  The grocery stores have shelves full of Entenman's varieties.

I've never been to the outlet in El Segundo, but I might have to try it. My mom was not a baker. Her idea of baking was opening the Entenman's box. I know it's one of the things she misses most about NY.

I did find these candles at Rite Aid last year. They smell wonderful.  The coffee cake candle brings me right back to the happiest childhood memories.

Re: Food names - regional differences?

housecat, here we grew up with VandeKamps and certainly our markets nd especially Ralph's markets are STILL more skewed to that brand, but I have seen pretty good selections of Entenmans at some of the other shains and independents..

Of course, I certianly understand that its never the same as when you grew up with something...and then have to leave it....
