I know food trucks with gourmet foods are all the rage these days; I have to go downtown one day for lunch - I think it's on Fridays - when a bunch of them congregate in one area and see if they're as good as the food shows would have us believe.

I was talking to a friend about growing up in NYC, and how there were different food trucks that used to come by in warm weather - Good Humor, Bungalow Bar, and Mr. Softee every day, of course, but once a week there used to be a truck that sold all kinds of whole pies that passed through our neighborhood. You knew they were there because they rang a bell, so people would hear it and come out of their apartments, climb onto the back of the truck (one person at a time), and choose whatever pies they wanted. The pineapple cheese and coconut custard were wonderful! There was also a pizza truck; I seem to remember it coming through for only one season, though - maybe it wasn't as succcessful because there were so many pizza places around.

Anyone else remember any special food trucks from your childhood? All I see regularly is the daily ice cream truck that plays "La Cucaracha" over...and over...and over...and over...

It takes a "special" kind of person to be able to listen to the same silly tune, all day long, day in and day out, month after month.... Wink {#emotions_dlg.scared}
