Floral lace dinnerware

My husband purchased two sets of floral lace for my Christmas gift. It is only the two of us and I do the dinner and the dishes myself. Now it's July and all the dinner plates are chipped around the edges and I would be embarassed to put these on my table. What is wrong with my plates? In my entire life I never had a chipped dish and I'm pretty sad that these dishes are not up to quality standards. I will not be able to use them, so I guess I go back to my old set of dishes. We are big temp-tation fans, but not for these. What a waste of money.
