Re: Favorite Lunch Meat / Cold Cuts

a very fun question -- if I buy lunch meat, my favorite has always been boiled ham. I ate boiled ham & american cheese sandwiches at lot - especially when we traveled. If I was flying and didn't have the option to carry a cooler, I opted for PB&J since it didn't need refrigeration.

My favorite is a piece of bologna with one slice of bread folded in half.  Sometimes add mustard but usually like it plain jane.

Roast beef sliced thin, provolone and bean sprouts with a bit of italian dressing. On italian bread or a Pita pocket.

Outside of an occasional ham sub, fried bologna or fried Spam sandwich, I don't eat many sandwiches from cold cuts.  I do like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, homemade ham salad, chicken or turkey salad sandwiches.

We stopped eating deli meats when we became senior, senior citizens. I miss having them on hand for a quick lunch or snack. I thought there was a risk for Listeria. It seems I remember getting some cautionary advice to stop eating it. Is it safe for older people and pregnant ladies now?

I hadn't heard anything about it not being safe if from the deli...but there's lots of things I don't know lol.  I hope someone here is able to answer.  I know my mom and dad still eat it.  I couldn't get my dad to stop eating bologna if I tried lol.

I don't know if this is a regional thing or not, but my dad will still buy this stuff called souse meat on occasion.  It's a lunch meat of some sort, but I've never tried any because it never looked or sounded appealing to me.  I think it's made from essentially left over beef or pork product kinda made into a loaf...I'm not exactly sure.

Re: Favorite Lunch Meat / Cold Cuts

We don't eat much lunch meat, whenever I  buy it we forget we have it.  I do make pb and J's every day for my 12 year old twin granddaughters that come over every day after school.

I have been craving a tuna fish sandwich lately.
