By virtue of the fact that birds fly over zoos, farms, etc., there are so many animals able to be contaminated. And with the lax attention to cleanliness in processing plants and testing of food, we are in a very scary situation. This is able to be spread easier than mad cow disease. So many recalls.

CT...Ranges store to store, regular eggs to Organic to Pasture Raised.
Fresh Market, and my local grocery Big Y...Pasture Raised brand I used to buy, pre-inflation...was about $5.49, when regular and Organic was more like $3.99, then.
Now...that same PR brand has been $8.99-11.99, depending, for the past 3 years. No more sales either. Or hardly ever, like they used to.
As for my Aldi's...I was so happy when I saw they had Pasture Raised for about $3.45, then $3.99, now about $5.59, WHEN they have them in stock. I still buy them because at $5.59 for pasture raised, that's pretty good considering I can't do better even for non-organic now.
Very expensive everywhere in my area of CT, but Aldis. Went to Aldi's the other day they didn't even have Organic only regular.
With eggs and dairy/milk, I only buy organic or in the case of the eggs if not organic then the pasture raised...so I went home without eggs.

@amyb Pasture and free range eggs are a problem ne scarce.
Wild birds are " dropping" in these outside areas and spreading bird flu.
When just one chicken tests positive, the whole flock is destroyed. This means sometimes thousands of birds.
Many pasture and free range chicken farmers have lost their flocks over and over again. Some have just given up.
These eggs are going to be unaffordable, even if you remortgage your home to buy them.

And just think about all the foods we buy that have eggs in it! I can't even imagine what the price of some regular grocery items may be due to the cost of eggs. Mayo will probably be $10 a quart soon!

Terrible. I wasn't keeping up with the bird flu news, but am learning more on this thread tonight. Some days you just say "what else?!" when it comes to the world, and lately with all the viruses, flus etc.
That said...my stores' pasture raised eggs went up to $11.99 by about 2022 and have stayed in this range for Organic, PR...$8.99-11.99, which is outrageous. I've never paid the $11.99, and I've tried to get sales or buy from Aldis. But once or twice I've had to pay the $8.99.
Anyway...let's hope things improve.
Free-range/Cage Free doesn't mean much, mainly marketing terms...I've heard they can let the chickens out for just 10 minutes a day to "roam" still feed them non-organic feed, and call it free-range. But anyway, that's another topic. Tks for the info.

I paid 4.19 for a dozen Aldi's large eggs (just the regular ones, not organic or anything) yesterday.

@minkbunny- Just bought a dozen regular large eggs from Aldi for $3.99 - limit of 2. Cheapest price on our area. Wonder how long it will last.

@WORKING GAL Hi, Hopefully it will last until I get back to the store. See my post in Community Chat about price increases

When the bird flu is under control. Many don't want to believe it but apparently this is a huge problem.

Last week I paid 6.49 for a dozen and half at Kroger.
