Egglands Best were still $2.79 dozen at IGA yesterday, which was basically the only choice for large eggs.  Store supply for eggs was low yesterday.

The last time we bought eggs they were .30 a piece. Got some at Kroger a few days ago for 4.49 for 18. That’s .24. We use a lot of eggs.

Looks like I am getting a bargain!  UGH

Sorry I poo-pooed DH getting chickens 5 yrs ago!

Generally, you won't save money raising your own chickens for eggs.  You can't just let them run around your yard.  The hawks will quickly find them.  DH had a friend who tried raising them and gave up.  Had no problems with the chickens themselves, but the predators, especially the hawks kept picking them off.  We also have owls, fox, coyote, and raccoons.

The chickens, if not raised together, will often pick on one until they kill it.  And then there are various diseases.  From reading a Facebook Group for keeping chickens, I guess taking them to the vet is not an option.  It would certainly cut into your egg savings.

NYC - LOCAL SUPERMARKET CHAIN

... today I paid $6.99 for a dozen large eggs.  $11.99 for 1/2 gallon of Friendly Ice Cream.... which is a couple of dollars cheaper thn I paid last week.  Produce prices are terrible.

I only buy perishable from the supermarket.  Everything else I buy from Amazon ... quite a savings on canned goods and non-food items.

We prefer the organic, pasture-raised eggs. And they are noticeably tastier too ..

vibrant orange yolks, and thick whites. But they're not inexpensive ... the last dozen was $10.79. But for just the two of us, it's a nice treat.

I used to buy that brand before the prices skyrocketed and never really came back down.  They're over $10/dozen here.

I usually end up getting Nellie's or Happy Egg, but today the Hen House Farm Free Range eggs were on sale for $4.59.  Seems to be a consortium of small farms from their packaging.

Years ago I got pasture raised eggs from a girl I skated with.  She got to keep the money when she sold any eggs.  Even those chickens aren't what most THINK free rangeing is.  They're contained in a cage with wheels called a tractor that gets moved around to different spots.  It's done that way to protect the chickens from predators.
