$3.29 a dozen for cage-free brown eggs at Save-A-Lot.

Seems to be no rhyme nor reason with egg prices. Each trip, there's a vast difference. A few weeks ago, got cage free x-lg brown eggs for $4.29. This week the regular large ones were $4.99. Eggland's Best large white run $4.29, store brand is at $4.89. Just can't figure out these cost differences.

Looks like I am getting a bargain! UGH
Sorry I poo-pooed DH getting chickens 5 yrs ago!
Generally, you won't save money raising your own chickens for eggs. You can't just let them run around your yard. The hawks will quickly find them. DH had a friend who tried raising them and gave up. Had no problems with the chickens themselves, but the predators, especially the hawks kept picking them off. We also have owls, fox, coyote, and raccoons.
The chickens, if not raised together, will often pick on one until they kill it. And then there are various diseases. From reading a Facebook Group for keeping chickens, I guess taking them to the vet is not an option. It would certainly cut into your egg savings.
Our neighbor next door has many. I doubted when he said he could build a safe haven.
We have hawks, eagles, coyotes, fox, racoons....you name it running through our yard daily!
We have blizzards and record low temps.....gosh, his chickens are doing fabulous for over 4 years now!
None taken, none eaten, none killed, none died! I don't know how they survived the Christmas Blizzard of 2022!
His feed, like everything else, took a big jump in price, but he still calculates it is WAY cheaper than buying them now. Plus, they are not caged chickens...and he has teenagers to help him, ha ha.
I'd use his plan to build a coop if we ever do it when and IF we retire.
With the price of groceries, I may be working til I die.

Egglands best 18 pack. Large. 5.49. The store brand was 4.99 for a dozen large. I haven't seen eggs under $3.00 in a long time.

We have 12 chickens so the cost of feed. I cannot even eat store bought eggs anymore they are tough & tasteless. We also have a couple of ducks. They eggs are oily tasting to me but amazing for baking. Fresh eggs run $4-$5 a dozen but worth it.

I paid $6.72 for 18 this week using Walmart home delivery! I had not paid much attention until I checked my receipt and my jaw dropped!😮 With holiday cooking and baking just around the corner, I am HOPING prices will trend downward, but realistically know it is not likely.🤞

Sam's Club
Five dozen eggs for $13.42, which equals approx. $2.69 a doz.
I don't really care if my eggs are cage-free or organic.
