Dumb question about convection ovens?

Is the fan on all the time, meaning noisy?  I have an air fryer oven and it just dawned on me the reason I don't use it more is the noise.  I default back to my big oven, which will need replacing one of these years.  I'd hate to buy the wrong thing.

Some "big" convection ovens are noisy and some aren't. So look at ratings and reviews!

My oven has a feature where you can turn off the convection feature and it's off most of the time when I use the oven.

Re: Dumb question about convection ovens?

A convection oven and air fryer are not the same thing.  The oven usually has a fan that can be turned off but it's air frying capabilities are not very effective.   An air fryer was made to air fry and its fan usually stays on all the time.

@depglass   Just a reminder-- As I always told my students, there's no such thing as a "dumb" question! You want answers to a legitimate question so don't put yourself down because you don't know something.

I have a wall oven with the option of Convection cooking.  When that option is selected the fan always runs and it is noisy.

I hardly ever use the Convection feature.  It was a novelty when new but now I forget to use it.

Re: Dumb question about convection ovens?

My oven has a convection and a air fryer setting. I know the oven is on while in use but don't remember it being overly noisy?

I do notice the noise while it's cooling after we turn off the oven. It has a fan that runs until it's cool. Sometimes I open the oven door to let out the heat so the fan will go off faster.

I have 2 air fryers different watts. The larger one with more watts is noisy the smaller one is quiet? Bought those before we bought the oven we have now about 2 1/2 yrs old.

Re: Dumb question about convection ovens?

I have both a convection oven and an air fryer.  The Air Fryer is noisy, the oven is not.  I use the "tv test", i.e. do I need to turn up the volume on the television to keep hearing it if the oven  is on-no, if the air fryer is running-yes.  This is my first convection oven, but I will never be without one again if I can help it, it makes a huge difference in how long I need to roast or bake something.  Plus, I can now bake cheessecake, which I simply could not do successfully in a "still air" oven.

I have a convection oven with the air fry option. The fan can be a bit noisy if not used to it running. My fan seems to run even on the regular bake setting. It has to do with it being more efficient and even baking.

Re: Dumb question about convection ovens?

Both my wall oven and microwave have a convection setting. And yes, the fan is on all the time. The fan in my microwave is much noisier than the one in the wall oven.
