Does anyone here subscribe to Butcher Box?

A friend of mine recommended I try it, but I'm skeptical and I have a few questions.  Is anyone here a subscriber?

No but it sounds like a good option if you have a hard time getting good meat. Their boxes usually have enough for 30 meals and it comes out to about $5 a meal I think. But that's just your meat. It's good organic meat from what I've heard.

Re: Does anyone here subscribe to Butcher Box?

I was for several years, we just unsubscribed about 6 months ago. We also subscribed to Crowd Cow, both were good and offered a fairly wide variety of meats and  seafood. I will try to answer any questions you have, we were happy with both of those companies and had we not been maxed out on freezer space coupled with my contemplating retirement we would have continued with both of them.

@house_cat Is there any reason you can't ask your friend that recommended it? From your brief post it would seem like you have a friend that likes it and you communicate with that friend. I would ask this friend your questions. Just my opinion of course, but I do trust my friends and their judgment.

@cjm61

She's actually a teacher with whom I work occasionally and I don't see her often.  From what I gather, she doesn't cook much and hates to shop, which is totally opposite of me.

Thank you. Have you always been happy with the quality?  How is their customer service?  Most importantly, I'm assuming you can change up the order each month - how long in advance do you need to do that?

Re: Does anyone here subscribe to Butcher Box?

@house_cat The quality was always very good and any issues were handled quickly without problem. As to changing the box, they send an email telling you when the shipment is being sent and what the last day to cancel or change the order. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM ADDED TO YOUR APPROVE EMAIL LIST! For some reason my email started sending their mail to my spam folder, this is the only issue I ever had with them. They also have specials and will notify you of them in time to add them to your order.

In addition they have special meats available during holidays and special times. They will offer turkeys for T-giving, ham and lamb for Easter, prime rib for Christmas...etc.

The fish and seafood is very good, I started getting Arctic Char from them and it was wonderful, also their dry scallops are very good.

I am like you, I love to cook so this was a great way to get special meats and seafood. They offer either a regular box or you can design your own, and that can be changed monthly if you wish. They will offer specialty add-in as well. We enjoyed it.

Re: Does anyone here subscribe to Butcher Box?

I am a subscriber and LOVE Butcher Box! Yummy! Woman LOL

Yes, it's expensive, but it seems like all high quality meat (grass fed, organic, etc.) and seafood is.

My next order is coming right away and I copied it to show you what this box has in it. I always change up and order different items each time, and yes, you can delay or hurry your next shipment (or cancel altogether).

The box is packaged really well with dry ice and so far everything I've received is still frozen hard when I open it. I live in Florida, so that is important when traveling to me when the outside temperature is h-o-t!

Looking at my recent order history I ordered in September, December, March and this one will be in May. I edited and picked the dates I wanted. Everything is vacuum packaged and labeled well and will last in your freezer. I usually take whatever I'm going to use out of the freezer and put in the refrigerator the night before to thaw.

I buy the "Classic" box @ $169 (Free S&H) but I also ordered some "specials" offered to be included in my box so this order is $251.00 - note ordering specials or extras is not required. Also you can edit the items in your Classic box each time, so you can get exactly what you want.

This time I ordered in the Classic box:

3 packages of Filets with (2) 6oz steaks in each = 6 Filets

1 x 2 lb package Wild Sockeye Salmon (individually wrapped servings)

3 x 1 lb packages Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts

4 x 8 oz Boneless Pork Chops *Note from me - Beautiful thick chops that I butterfly

Then added some specials that were being offered:

1 x 12 oz package Apple Gouda Sausage (Free)

2 x 1 lb packages Stew Beef @ $22

A "Burger Blast" - 5 Packages of qty 6, 5.3 oz burgers = 30 burgers @ $53 ($1.76 ea) to have for the grill for the summer holidays

1 x 14 oz prepared Nieman Ranch Pulled Pork (BBQ, heat and eat)

And when I signed up the special offered to me was to get qty 2 x 1 lb packages of "Free ground beef for life of membership" so those will be in there too for no charge.

It shows like this billed out:

Again it seems expensive, but the quality is there. The stew beef for example @$11 per lb (grass fed), but the last time I bought it I was very impressed. Beautiful cubes of beef (lean) with a wonderful taste. I've got a good recipe for slow cooker beef stew and am so looking forward to having it again Woman Tongue

I hope this helps!

@house_cat  Before you buy, research where their meat comes from - what country....
