I noticed this at the grocery yesterday. Items that I buy weekly, so I know the prices, were at least .50 more from that last time I shopped. I wasn't even paying really close attention. I had 2 grandsons with me, so I was a bit distracted & trying to keep moving, but I still noticed.

Actually, no, not at all. But I confess that living alone does make a huge difference since I have no others to please.
I eat unprocessed/low processed foods and purchase the more expensive items only when on sale (Wild Keta salmon in season & on sale was dinner last night, along with fresh broccoli/cauliflower). I really do my best to buy everything on sale but it doesn't always work out that way. I'm a pretty hardcore bargain shopper though, so I do OK. No processed foods and no snacking makes healthier foods more economical. I save money eating this way.
On top of that, I'm currently doing Intermittent Fasting for health reasons and find I don't buy much. There are many things I am just not buying at all because eating infrequently means they would spoil before I get around to eating them. I prefer my food freshly cooked & don't stick leftovers in the freezer for later so it is a challenge.

Yes, ours is going up, especially as we have a CSA for veggies and eggs so our grocery trips don't include these. And I buy dog and cat food and some household cleaning items online. However we do buy more expensive options and have cut down on cheaper junk food.
I believe that grocery items are not included in the government inflation index, which seems silly because it is one constant expense that everyone has.

Yes, yes, yes! I went to the grocery store yesterday and blew $351. This was a quick trip to buy store specials to fill several holes on pantry and freezer shelves. I still have to go to WalMart for razor blades, cleaning supplies, and dog food. I do not know how some people manage, especially those families with young children. When our girls were young, and we had a house payment, our budget was very tight. At that time we had a garden; I canned our vegetables, and we raised our own potatoes and onions. I stretched our dollar with dried beans, soups, stews and casseroles, and cooked mainly from scratch.

The price of food has risen continueously and the sizes have shrunk as well. The desception of the amount you are purchasing is what I find truly disturbing. I always was a coupon/store special shopper but now I find that just doesn't go as far as it did. I really don't want to have to spend four days to run to each store to get the specials in order to bring the food budget down where it was. By the time I factor in the cost of gas it really doesn't save that much. I'm also at the point where my health issues do not afford this option. I always did make a lot of our food from scratch and try to buy staple items in bulk when on sale but I find that still isn't enough to compensate for the increases. I am trying to have a few more vegetarian meals but I don't find them to be as much of a budget saver as one would think. I'll still continue to do it because it is healthier but it is not the savings that it should be.

Yes. I go to the store fro a few things & next thing I know I have $200-$300 in my cart. I buy Honey Crisp Apples & they are aroun $15 for a dozen. The price of hamburger & chicken are ridiculous.

YES!!
I am one person and I used to do $50 tops at the market. Now I'm lucky at $75 but normally it's closer to $90-$100.
I couldn't believe a bag of apples is now almost $6 a bag and not that I eat cereal a lot but I do like Grape Nuts and that tiny little box is now about $4. My half gallon of Almond milk (generic) is almost $3.
And if laundry detergent gets any more expensive I'm bringing back the river and the rock.

Prices have gone up. By the time we fill our cart with cat food for 8 cats, cat food for the food pantry (don't forget that many needy folks still have pets who need to eat!), and cat litter, it's good for our budget that there isn't much room left in the cart. We shop for fresh produce, dairy (milk, yogurt, etc.) and incidentals, from soup to pasta to condiments and a bag of frozen chicken breasts if we're running low, and that's about it. It adds up, anyway! We splurge on two QVC foods--beef tenderloin tips from Kansas City steaks, which are a staple in our kitchen, and corky's ribs. My goodness, we're boring.

@libbyannE No you're not! Your shopping list sounds like mine. I shop the produce, dairy and meat (usually chicken for me too) and then run down the pasta aisle for my spaghetti and beans. I was sorely tempted by that KC tips deal the other day. You're going to have good eats this fall!

Yes, many things are more expensive. That trend is going to continue, probably at a faster pace than it has in the past.
Unfortunate, but realistic. IMO
