Yes, I do. In my part of the South, it's called "looking" beans and I have always looked my beans.

I only use Camellia brand beans and peas and all i do is rinse the beans or peas. I have never found any rocks or dirt in the beans or peas. I have to pay more for this brand but worth every penny. It says on the package A New Orleans Favorite. If you can find this brand try them. I buy green baby limas in this brand and you would have thought you just picked them right out of your garden that morning. I also love their pinto beans with ham and cornbread, what a meal.

I have always just rinsed & washed my dried beans before cooking them. Have only found a couple of ""small stones"" in 30 yrs of doing this.
