Grocery store or I just say Kroger, that is the name of the grocery store.

I just say Safeway or the store or the market. I've never heard anyone in real life say ""the supermarket.""

I'm a NOLA native, and I've honestly never heard anyone say this. Yes, I've read in in touristy brochures, etc, but never heard this expression used in real life. It's supposed to be a holdover from the days when French was the primary language here. If I remember right, it has to do with the French verb for "make" which is used differently than we use it in English. In any case, I always say "grocery," never supermarket. Or I say the name of the store - I'm going to Rouses's or Robert's (pronounced Ro-bairs) Fun thread!
