I am also a household of one. I have a 6 qt. Ninja Foodi, which pressure cooks, slow cooks, convection bakes, air fries and more. I use it when I cook, which is not all the time. Also recommend a 6 qt. machine as that is what most PC/ Instant Pot recipes are measured for.

Another Ninja foodi lover here.  2 of us and we use it all of the time.  My best friend has the IP and the foodi does way more.  Check it our before you buy the IP.  You'll love it.

I never really got the hang of the pressue cookers.  I have a small CE one and I'll cook potatoes or boiled eggs in it, but that's about it so far.  Mostly, I use a slow cooker for chili.  I figured out that when you cook meats and veggies together in a crock pot they all end up tasting the same and I don't like that, so I'm afraid the same would happen with a pressure cooker.

For me, the air fryer and a grill are kitchen essentials, but I'm not eating a plant based diet and have no plans to.

That was exactly our experience. But with a pressure cooker (we've used only stovetop, but electrical is likely the same), the cooking is totally different. The results are as good as conventional cooking but just faster.

"I love my crockpot and have wondered if an instapot is much different."

Yes, it's totally different. A crockpot is a SLOW cooker and an Instant Pot (NOT Instapot) is a pressure cooker. Once I bought an Instant Pot pressure cooker, I gave away my crockpot.

Re: Do you own/use an Instant Pot?

LindaLatte,

I agree with your instructor. A 6 quart size is the best choice in the majority of instances. Why? The vast majority of recipes in pressure cooking cookbooks, in magazines and on the Internet are for 6-quart pressure cookers. It’s the size I personally use and recommend as a primary pressure cooker. You might think, “there are only two of us” or “I cook only for myself”, wouldn’t a smaller than 6-qt. be just fine?” For some recipes it would be fine, but you’d be limited in some of the techniques that can be used with a 6-qt. and thus I would not recommend a pressure cooker smaller than a 6-quart as your only pressure cooker.
