Re: Do you like ROSE LEVY BERANBAUM's cookbooks?

Why did you buy 3 of her cookbooks before deciding you never liked any of her recipes?

Why not? I buy a lot of books. Always have. These were so highly praised I thought they would be great. For some reason, I have not used them. I wanted to see what others' opinions were.

My local library book sale loves me for the books I buy and the ones I donate.

I had her cake book (was it the Cake Bible, someone mentioned?) years back.

I remember I only made one of the recipes. They all seemed so complicated, that I guess I was put off by them, even though during that period of my life I did a LOT of baking, and sometimes very elaborate things. I liked detailed baking books at that time, so I had to get hers.

Anyway, I remember it was a crumb cake, a coffee-cake type cake, that was one of the simpler ones in her book.

I brought it into work and everyone loved it. It really was a very good cake.

I sold so many of my cookbooks after I left work, so I no longer have it. I did keep all my Maida Heater books (I'm sure I'm spelling her name incorrectly), and Susan Purdy's books, among others. Something about Rose's didn't appeal to me enough to keep, though I remember it was a beautiful book, and had a lovely cover.

OK. That was my reaction too, although I'm all over a lot of complicated recipes. Odd isn't it? I just found her books tedious for some reason although they are put together beautifully.
