We aren't going there now - Hubby has to work early on Black Friday, so he needs to stay home, and Lori's invited us to her place - good, wholesome, and organic eating all the way. She has to work the next day too, so it's better this way.

Why does green bean casserole generate so much hate? I think some people sneer at anything that's called ""casserole."" It's not Dorcas Reilly's fault.

I can't speak for others, but as for me Green Bean Casserole is not a food snob thing. I do not like my veggies in cream sauce, butter, etc. I like them barely sautéed, or slightly streamed. I made Guys homemade recipe, and I tasted it, it was good, but I couldn't eat more than spoonful. Also, I think many people who do not like GBC, do not like green beans period! My SIL is like that. He says he hates GBC, then you find out what he really hates is Green beans! He detests them! LOL!

I f I liked it I would find a sub for the Cream soup. That soup is loaded with msg, I cannot eat msg in anything. That said I use Amy's organic Cream O mush soup. I use it in strata. I will say this, it is okay but doesn't have the consistency of Campbell's COM soup. I would add teas flour or starch to Amy's soup.

OK, from reading all this, I think I am going to use mushroom gravy instead of cream of mushroom soup!

I don't think it's full-on hate. I just think that, for many, it's worth a little extra work to make something excellent. One would have to admit - that canned cream of mushroom soup is just not at all excellent. I'd rather make a beautiful, quality ingredient dish - even if it takes a little more work. But that's just me.

That said, I also don't think anybody is telling others what they should do. I do things the way I do them and I fully accept that others might do differently (even if they are wrong - haha - just kidding).

It's nothing personal. It's just people with different opinions.

I just tasted this dish yesterday at a pre-Thanksgiving potluck. I liked it, French fried onions and all.
