Liberty Blue Staffordshire ironstone. we don't have any fine china, but I just love this ironstone. photo e776bb7e-6d64-4bda-8688-13f5df7135d7.jpg

I have this pattern and lots of completer pieces as well, all picked up at thrift stores. I have it displayed in my china cabinet all year long, but have never actually served a meal on them. Guess I need to change that.

I used to drag out some stoneware that my grandmother bought me but since I have 5 grandchildren under the age of 5, lately I have been using very nice thanksgiving themed paper plates. It is more about being together as a family than fancy dishes. A bonus, I don't have to sit and wash them before and after dinner. More time to spend the with grandbabies.

I agree. We have far too many kinds of four generations running around. Paper plates are best and clean up is quick!

When I plan a formal, fancy Thanksgiving Dinner; I use my good china, my wedding china and silver flatware and my chrystal. But I only do that every few years. Most Thanksgivings are more casual, I use nice china but it's not expensive. It's ivory with a gold trim and I have gold plate flatware. And then there are years when I go full put casual for Thanksgiving, like this year. I go with more of a party theme than a fancy dinner theme and I use partyware and set up a buffet. This year, I'm using some really nice heavy plastic pieces that I bought from Amazon a couple of years ago. I got it when we were planning my daughter's wedding shower and some other pre wedding celebrations. We never used the things I bought and I totally forgot I even had it. It's all whites and silvers and the flatware is clear. I do need some color. I'm thinking I'll pickup some orange and yellow tablecloths and napkins.

I love that you mix it up! I love the tradition of using the good china, or grandma's dishes for a holiday, but over the decades, the same old thing every holiday can get really boring. I love how you change things up and if I were a guest, I'd love to come and see just what you did each year.

I have a number of different sets of dishes passed down through the family, and I like to use them in rotation for special dinners. I like to have lots of different styles of tablescapes, and enjoy using the family heirlooms in them.

Thanks all for replying and sharing your patterns and thoughts. I would love to come and sit down at each and every table to enjoy the beautiful settings and delicious food.

I saw this pattern online this morning and it's calling to me a bit. I DON'T need it. Need it as much as a need some more inches on my hips. {#emotions_dlg.lol} It's just my husband and me, but I do like to go all out for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. If anything, I would only get some dinner plates, and maybe some salad plates.

Plymouth

Anyway, it's fun to dream.....and scheme. Ha!

I just saw those at Pfaltzgraff and on SALE! $89 if you buy from this link http://www.pfaltzgraff.com/plymouth/dinnerware-set/V42603800.html?dwvar_V42603800_size=16PC
