It is more about being together as a family than fancy dishes. A bonus, I don't have to sit and wash them before and after dinner. More time to spend the with grandbabies.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the paper plates. They make some really nice looking ones these days. And with kids and lots and lots of people to serve, it makes good sense.
Enjoy you grands!

I have my mother's Stangl pottery dishes. I use them for Thanksgiving, as this is when she used them.

I am not having Thanksgiving this year but when I do I use my Christmas dishes. We are also invited out for Christmas so I am really getting a pass on holiday cooking this year.

I use Autumn by Lenox with silver flatware & silver serving dishes & lead chrystal stemware. For Christmas I use Holiday by Lenox with silver flatware & serving dishes & the lead chrystal stemware. My table extends to serve 12 & I have linens that will fit the table fully extended - the table cloth is 144 inches. My table is Ethan Allen cherry wood with the double pedestal & is rectangular. The table for both holidays looks spectacular!!

I'm one of those people that keeps the dining room table set for the 'season' nearly all the time. I've found if I don't, my wonderful DH starts to clutter it up with his own type of 'organization'... you all KNOW what I mean. So I use it as part of the décor. Unfortunately, I'm a china junkie and have a few sets that I don't even use boxed up in the basement. For just us, we sit at the large counter in the kitchen island on an every day basis to have dinner, so the decorated dining room looks nice. For Thanksgiving I use a Lenox pattern that I received in 1980 for my first wedding (yea, I got custody of the china!).
I add gold plated flatware, gold tablecloth and napkins and spashes of orange, green and black (the fine stripe around the perimeter of the china is black).
Then for Christmas, I set the table with this set I purchased believe it not at Target!

I accent this with salad plates and mugs found at a Ralph Lauren outlet a few years ago with BIG snowflakes in different patterns, green chargers, Waterford sparkly crystal, white tablecloth with a Christmas plaid runner (white background with red and green) and napkins. Yes, it's elaborate, but a part of my holiday decoration. I love it when at least ONE thing in my house looks deliberate! Love to see all of your china choices.

I love these dishes. I am a sucker for Staffordshire anything. These are rich and gorgeous and scenic and interesting......better than "fine china" any day, IMO!
