The surface material of ours is "Schott Ceran", I don't think that is anything special at least at that time. Super easy to clean and maintain. I am sort of a tidy person and don't drag pans around but I use heavy LeCreuset pans fairly frequently as well as other pans that are induction ready. Love it, excellent control and even cooking, my favorite of all choices.
That's amazing @persiflage and your lucky! Mine was a GE and scratched so easily. And I'm not a cook.
However, they are pretty to look at and you have a better made than I did. Best.

I have never heard of this! An eye???
I tried googling it all sorts of ways and got no where.
Google is just not my friend!
If you wouldn't mind explaining a bit to me what a 'stand alone induction eye' is?
I have a stand alone single Induction burner.....but I couldn't find anything about an 'eye'.

@RespectLife , An 'eye' is simply another name for a burner. That's just what we used to call them where I'm from. I thought it was a common name for the burners on a stove.

OH! ha ha....never heard the term! Thanks for explaining!
I do have a single Induction burner....LOVE it and use it all the time.
I can finally get a nice low simmer that my gas cook top can't provide.
My gas cooktop is more a 'decoration' now! ha ha

Is it necessary to have a range hood with the stand alone induction burners?
07-18-2024 05:38 PM
I don't have one over mine. Don't have a problem. It doesn't heat up the kitchen like a stove burner does because only the pot/pan gets hot! And the contents, of course!

I agree with @Zhills
I use mine on my island...NO range hood, no issues.

@Zhills @RespectLife ..............Thank you both that solves my problem.

I cook on a glass top stove, electric.
For years I cooked on a gas stove, for fifteen years, while renovating, on a wood cook top stove.
Never induction.
