I live in Florida and I agree with your husband. You are paying a fortune for the AC to cool your home then fighting it using the oven.

I don't bake in any weather!

But I don't use my oven to cook in hot weather.

Oh heavens yes. We don't even have central AC in our house. We keep our windows open and deal with the heat and humidity. It's part of summer and I love open windows. And I bake all the time. 

(After the winter that finally ended, heat and humidity are fine with me!)

My car does have AC and I don't even use it. I open the moon roof, turn the music on, and drive.

If you have a modern oven, especially the self-cleaning ones, they should be well-enough insulated that it won't really make a difference in the heat in your house.  

If you don't have a/c you probably don't live in Oklahoma.
