I have always used a dish cloth, disposable handiwipe, paper towel, or occasionally a brush to wash dishes and pots and pans. Never a sponge.
So am I behind times? Do you use sponges? How often do you wash them--and do you wash them in the dishwasher?
Inquiring minds want to know!
And what better time than the holidays to ask about dish washing! ![]()

I use a Dobie, sponge with scrubbing on outside. Whenever I run my dishwasher I put it in with the silverware.

I also use a dish cloth but my husband uses scrub daddy/mommy sponges which go in the dish washer when old.

@Sooner. I think sponges are nasty for washing dishes, harbingers of decaying particles of food and bacteria. I'd never use one for dishes. I use a brush that has a reservoir for detergent. I thoroughly rinse it after using.

I use the sponge mommy, I love it. Cleans nicely and never smells.

Yes I have always used a sponge. It's a yellow sponge on one side and a green scrubbie on the other. It's the Scotch Bright band that I usually get from Costco. However the last few times I was in Costco they were out of them and I noticed that Amazon has their own version in their basics brand. I might give that a try.
I will put them in the dishwasher usually once a week or so but when it's time to say goodbye, I'll just take out a new one. I like to keep a supply of them on hand.
I have felt that it was just easier to clean using them rather than a dish cloth. I will use a dish cloth for wiping my hands or drying some dishes.

Most everything goes in the dishwasher unless it's just a couple of pieces and I'll do them by hand quickly with a Swedish Dishcloth (a thin sponge) and a drop of liquid dish detergent. My stovetop cooking is in assorted sizes of Henckle skillets that have the texture interior, like Hexclad. I only use my saucepans or big pots occasionally. I wash them by hand with either a Scrub Daddy or a Swedish Dishcloth to get done quickly, but they can go in the dishwasher too, if there's room.

We use microfiber cloths.
4 years ago I ordered a pack of 30 from QVC, don't remember the brand. I liked them so much I ordered 2 more packs, yes, 90 microfiber cloths. DD said I needed a 12 step program.
I gave some to my son, my sister and a former SIL. We keep 3/4 in each car.
I use a new one each time I do dishes. For a really dirty pan I get the worst w/paper towel, spray the bejeebers out of it with Dawn powerwash, then a mircofiber cloth, it does the trick.

I use sponges, after every use I rinse them with cold water to get the dish soap out. I wash them in the washer with towels. I use them 3 to 5 days before laundering.
