Do You Want the Snap-On Plastic Lids for Your Casseroles?

I bought so many Temp-tations bakers when they were offered with snap-on plastic lids. For me, it was a strong selling point for storage and transportation. Now, Tara rarely offers these lids to go with her 9 x 13 casseroles and other bakers. I've joined the chats, FB and emailed Tara asking if they are going to offer these again. No answer. Ever. Well, today I saw this Pioneer Woman 9 x 13 on the Walmart website for $15.98.The Pioneer Woman Ceramic 9x13 Baker with Lid, Sweet Romance

I have no idea how her bakers hold up. My TT have been great, but both TT and PW products are made in China. DD uses the scalloped edge PW bakers and has never had an issue.

Thoughts?

Re: Do You Want the Snap-On Plastic Lids for Your Casseroles?

@PA Mom-mom - My sister has a big collection of Pioneer Woman stoneware and dinnerware and loves it all. I only have a couple of ramekins, so I can't weigh in on the quality of the pieces that really go in and out of the oven.

As for the Temp-tations lids (or "storage covers," as Tara was often careful to call them), I have found them fairly helpful over the years for stacking and storage but only sort of helpful for transportation or leftovers since they aren't airtight and sometimes barely fit the dish they came with. If memory serves, I think Tara or Lisa stated in a presentation (or maybe a Facebook chat?) that they stopped offering the lids and racks because customers told them they didn't really use them, and omitting the extra pieces allows prices to be lower. I honestly don't miss the lids or racks, though I do still use both at times depending on the dish/bowl or the occasion.

@loriqvc  Thanks for the info. Well, I'll just hang on to the lids I still have. I don't mind that the plastic lids are not tight. In fact, that means I can put them on when the casserole is still warm. I absolutely use them for stacking, storing and transportation. I have a 3 qt. oval baker I just took to a pot luck in the matching insulated carrier. I took a cold pasta salad and put a small ice pack on top of the plastic lid before I zipped the carrier shut. Nothing moved and it stayed cold for 2 hours before lunch.

I've never been a fan of Temptations....i know it's amazing.   I must be 5he only one.

I prefer glass for food storage and a type of lid that doesn't involve those highly breakable latches.  I just feel like heating food in plastic is not safe or healthy.

@Kachina624 You are not supposed to heat with the plastic lid on the stoneware casserole baker. As far as I know there are no "latches." Are you thinking about LocknLock?

@PA Mom-mom.  No, i don't heat with lids on and yes, Lock 'n Lock has latches and they break off.

Re: Do You Want the Snap-On Plastic Lids for Your Casseroles?

I had (2) 9 x 13" casserole - Temptations. They came with Lid-its and plastic covers.  Both cracked   I called Temptations they said not to put the temperature up high.  I had the temperature set on what the recipe called for.  That made no sense to me.  I ended up throwing them out.  That is all they offered.

The most recent casserole dish I purchased was a 2.0 casserole  dish.  I purchased this one about maybe 6 months and it has the handles going out each end like loops.  Well, one of those broke off.  I called Temptations about it and they had no replacement but a huge round dish 3.0 qt. so they sent it out and it's not what I wanted and I will be giving it away. Disappointed with David's neighbor.

@Catastrophe  Wow! I hear ya. There have been other people who have said they have had bakers crack on them or other problems with Temp-tations. That's terrible! I think if I had those things happen, I would be wary as well. Never happened to me, but it might yet.

I have never had any problem with my TT ever, except Tara lies when she says it doesn't stick.  I have to use a spray on my casserole dishes every time I use them.

When I first purchased them I baked something and it stuck all over the bottom.

@PA Mom-mom  I have both Temptations bakeware and Pioneer Woman bakeware and, honestly, I like PW better.  I've had Temptations pieces 'craze' where the glaze gets spider web-like, tiny cracks.  I've yet to experience that with PW pieces.  I also own PW ceramic coffee mugs for over 5 years that get used every single day, including in the microwave.  They are as beautiful now as when I first purchased them.  No issues at all.
