Re: Do You Use A Meat Thermometer That Can Be Read Outside The Oven?

I use one from ThermoWorks -- probe with wire to outside display unit with alarm. Easy to use and accurate.

Re: Do You Use A Meat Thermometer That Can Be Read Outside The Oven?

I've been using an AcuRite digital thermometer for years, but I just checked Amazon and the model I have is no longer available. I definitely still recommend the brand.

FWIW, America's Test Kitchen's pick is the ThermoWorks brand; they say the extra money it costs is well worth it and it is durable and reliable.

Good luck!

My daughter picked one up at Walmart and can't remember the brand but she cooked prime rib and worked like a charm.   Said worth having.  I think a ThermoPro.

I never knew they had those and I have the old fashioned kind I guess.  Lol

We use the Meater.  Wireless with an app.  Works great.

Here's another vote for Polder. Mine is the type that has a wire attached to the probe that you plug into a digital unit. It's magnetic, so I just put it on the front of the oven. I usually set it for 30 degrees lower than the final internal temp as a nudge to start the veggies or side dishes. Then I reset it to the correct final internal temp to finish cooking. I used to have a wireless thermometer (I don't remember the brand), but it didn't work as well as my current Polder, which I've had for about 3 or 4 years.

PROS: Seems to be accurate, is fairly small & stores easily, is easy to read, has an on/off switch to conserve batteries.

CON: There's a plastic "handle" at the top of the probe that can get pretty hot. This looks like silicone, so you don't expect it to be hot.
