I use a crockpot/slow cooker at least once a week in the fall and winter. I just used one the last week. Mine has some programming options so it works for a lot of things.

I used a pressure cooker for a while but didn't really care for it so I went back to slow cookers.

@CalminHeart Welcome!🥰 Pressure cooking took a little getting used to for me, but my dear mother told me in years  past to hang in there, and I am glad I did!😊 I have been pleasantly surprised to find out just how BELOVED crockpots STILL are by many, and deservedly so!❤

THANK you SO much for caring to share today!🤗

I just picked up a new one.  My old one died so I decided to get the Ninja all in one.  It doesn't compare to a crock pot.  I only buy Hamilton Beach because years ago when I needed to replace my old Crock Pot, the new one I got almost burned my counter.  Had I not had it on a cutting board, it would have.  I returned it and was told they are getting ready to recall several models for the same problem.  No more Crock Pot brand for me.

@brandiwine Welcome!🥰  WOW!!!😮 THANK goodness for the cutting board preventing a fire! I am not surprised at the recalls, as quality of appliances has gone wayyyy down; though some of the newer brands perform well for a time!😊

Yes--  I still use my crock pot. I use it for  tough meats but especially for my mom's recipe for BBq spareribs. A pot roast is prefect as is a corned beef---- besides that, the whole house smells amazing with the smells of those things cooking all day. I do have a pressure cooker that I use all the time but the crock pot is my go to for comfort foods

@wagirl Welcome!🥰 Awwwww! Your  words wrapped a bow around my heart regarding using your dear mother's recipes!❤❤ It made your post that much more special!😁

Ahhh yes, those WONDERFUL smells wafting throughout the house, greeting guests as they walk through the door!😊

Yes... Have  dishes that need to simmer for 3 or 4 hours and do not have to worry about a fire being on.

I have fond memories of ALL the women in my family using Rival crockpots when I was growing up, and the WONDERFL dinners they made! They were proudly displayed on the kitchen counter or a shelf! They even owned crockpot cookbooks.😁❤ My dear aunt made an apple dsessert that was eye crossingly good!😁 I used one regularly for a time, but then I fell in LOVE❤ with pressure cooking. Nowadays versatile mutli use pots are all the rage and well LOVED.😊

Do you still own and use a crockpot/slowcooker?

@SandySparkles

I haven't read every post, so this has probably already been mentioned.

I stopped using my crock pot when I got my dog.  I'd heard from other owners that being at work all day and the crock pot going was torture for the dogs.  They smelled that wonderful chicken or whatever, and had to wait ALL DAY for pet parent to come home.

@Tinkrbl44 Welcome!🥰 I do not recall reading about how crock pots can affect dogs, however that is an EXCELLENT point you bring up! I can see how it would be torturous for man's best friend!😊 Anyone with a fur baby that is new to slow cooking will benefit GREATLY by reading this!👍😁

THANK you SO much for caring to share this VERY useful information!🤗

I have had one since 1974 and I still use one. I make soup in mine during the Winter. I love to just have it cooking all day and when it is cold and snowing there is just nothing better than hot soup and the smell of it when you come in.

@Kitlynn Welcome!🥰 Yesssss! Just the thought of the HOT soup simmering when coming in from the cold is comforting! 😊
There are several posters whose crock pots are still in service fifty years and more! That is amazing, and a true testament to the QUALITY of appliances back then! I am doubtful that ANY appliance purchased today will be here a half century later!😁

I had the same crock pot from 1974 until 2020 and then I bought a new one that is larger and easier to clean. I passed the one I had on to my niece and it is still working.

@Kitlynn Wlcome!🥰 I am certain your niece LOVES❤ using your handed down crock pot! She knows a LOT of love went into those pots, and helped turn out FANTASTIC meals! She will treasure it always!😊

THANK you SO much for caring to revisit and share more of your story!🤗

@hopi Welcome!🥰 Being able to leave it and not worry about a potential fire is a GREAT feature! Another poster mentioned hers almost causing a fire once so I suppose it still pays to be mindful.😊

Yes, we use our Rival crockpot frequently. It was a wedding gift when we married in 1981. Will be using it till it no longer works. We have cooked so many different things in our crockpot. Stews, soups, ribs, desserts. What you can make in them is endless. I even use it when I can jams. We have a pressure cooker, multi cooker and another brand slow cooker. My husband uses  those. I stick with my Rival. It hasn’t failed me in 43 years.

@Rockycoast WOW! I LOVED❤ reading about CANNING! I would never have thought of that! I use a Granite Ware canner water bath when I make jelly which I have not done in many sunsets! Reading all of the posts referencing how dependable they have been after 40-50 years is INCREDIBLE; many with heavy use!😁

THANK you SO much for caring to share this evening!🤗
