@AuntMame wrote:Washington Post food writers prepared a bunch of favorite recipes in a slow cooker and also in a pressure cooker. They found that the dishes prepared in the slow cooker tasted superior to those made in the pressure cooker. Spices and other flavors had time to develop and work their magic.
There are several recipes I make that do taste much better in a slow cooker than in an Instant Pot. Baked beans. Mississippi roast.
My Instant Pot's slow cooker feature lacks the embracing, wrap-around heat of my old Rival Crockpot.
@AuntMame Welcome!🥰 WOW! That is interesting and reaffirms what LOVERS❤ of slow cookers have known for MANY years!😁 Our dear mothers and grandmothers filled many happy bellies with their lovingly prepared slow cooked culinary delights.😊
THANK you SO much for caring to share this information!🤗

I have 3 that I use occasionally. I do not like to use for long cooking recipes in the summer. It makes me lose my appetite smelling it all day long. I like them in the winter.
I have a small one that I use to make 'baked 'potatoes, I learned in a cookbook that you can bake them the same as in an oven. Just wash/dry butter if you wish and I usually cook for about 4 hours on high -a little more on low. You can wrap in aluminum foil if you wish.
I found that the Ninja all around (?) cooker that I purchased years ago is rather useless for my purposes as the slow cooker function cooks way too fast. Maybe they have improved over the years? I am seriously thinking of donating it.
I mainly use presure cookers in the summer.

@okaywitheasypay Welcome!🥰 I am SO happy to read your post because I have NEVER thought of baking a potato in a slow cooker, but appreciate how it will keep the kitchen cool while doing so! I LOVE❤ that brilliant idea!😊
I absolutely LOVE❤ your nic, and THANK you SO much for caring to share such a useful tip today!🤗

@lilywhite wrote:We have several crockpots, various sizes. My first was one I got as a Christmas gift from where I worked back in the early 1970s. It is a Hamilton Beach and we still use it a lot. When I worked, I loved starting it in the morning and coming home to the great smell and dinner all ready. Now I'll start it, go ride the tractor all day and come in to dinner being ready. We use our smaller ones for making dips.
@lilywhite Welcome!🥰 I just LOVE❤ reading about all of the dependable crock pots purchased MANY sunsets ago, that STILL deliver excellent, delicious results; making smiles through the generations!😁 Having your meal slow cook ALL day so that you would have dinner ready when you got home was a GREAT idea!!!❤
Ride the tractor all day? 😁 Please pardon my curiosity, but do you farm? If so, I think that is AMAZING!😊

@Desert Lily wrote:The word "still" doesn't apply to me about using a slow cooker. When I was 1st married decades ago, we received several slow cookers as wedding gifts. I only remember using one once. Later, I gave them all away.
However, I bought a new slow cooker about a year ago & I love it. I buy the slow cooker insert bags, and there is zero clean-up. My brother had shared a recipe with me that I thought would be more flavorful & more tender if made in a slow cooker, & that's when I bought one.
Slow Cookers have been updated. I have my eye on the Green Pan Elite 8 that does several functions. I don't eat beef or pork, but occasionally eat chicken. My past experience in electric grilling was that it left the food dry. I've never owned or used a pressure cooker. I have a multi-function convection oven, but I've never used it.
@Desert Lily Welcome!🥰 I am SO glad that you NOW enjoy the benefits of slow cooking and LOVE❤ the one you currently have!😁 If you ever decide to use your convection oven, please report back and let us know your critique!😊
THANK you SO much for caring to share your crock pot story!🤗

I still use my slow cooker. I make my pulled chicken, beef stew, pot roast and warm chicken black bean dip. I use it more in the cooler months and grill in the warmer months. I always enjoy coming home and smelling dinner cooking. I live alone and find it comforting.

Sometimes I feel like the Crock Pot Queen, I have 7 models in different sizes. I use them all, sometimes several at one time. (Sometimes I borrow a second or third in one size. . .) They are especially helpful when cooking for a crowd (ie Thanksgiving - mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, corn; Soup Suppers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, etc). I have a very small one by my bed with citrus peels and water, which keeps moisture in my bedroom year around. . .

@lork Welcome and WOW!🥰 You ARE the crock pot QUEEN!!!❤❤ Seven is MOST impressive!!!😁 I LOVE❤ how use all of them, but what surprised me in a good way, was using it as aromatherapy and providing humidity in your room!!❤😄 That is a BRILLIANT idea!😊
THANK you SO much for caring to share your USE of your slow cookers!🤗
