My first flatware was Cornation and maybe by Oneida. It was 1974.

I do not remember, all I know is my Mom used Betty Crocker coupons for the service for 12! 55 years ago. It is under my bed, in a chest. My silver plate set is under my bed, at my daughters in a chest! I inherited my current home, so just use my parents! I do not remember names. I should put these in my big tubs for the grandchildren.

Don't remember the name of the pattern but I still use it. BUT several years after we got the set, we were visiting my brother. And they just received the same exact pattern from his Mother-in-law. The wife's brother just graduated from law school and brought all his stuff from living at school, home. His Mom didn't need anymore silverware so her daughter took the set. But her daughter didn't need it either.
Here we come and it was the same pattern as what we had. So we figured why not.
SO I figured I was set for life with everyday silverware. Not to be. I counted the knives the other day. I have ONE knife from that pattern Here I had 2 sets of the same pattern (not sure if it was a set of 8 or 12) and I now have only 1 knife!?!?!?!?
Thank goodness I was a frequent visitor to Lenox warehouse sales through the years.

I still have the Oneida flatware I bought in 1973 and it looks like new. The newer version of the same pattern is not nearly as solid.

I think my first set was from S&H green stamps. I replaced that with something from Kohl's and I'm currently thinking about getting something new but haven't actually looked at anything. It won't be anything fancy though.

I have no idea of the pattern. Got married in 1973 and my maid of honor's parents gave a set of stainless steel flatware. I was glad to get it and still use some pieces but most if it went missing over the years.

@Carmie June 14th was our 45th anniversary & we still use our Satinique flatware, too!

It is Oneida Satinique. I have been using it for almost 52 years.
@Carmie Now that was our good set growing up! So you are very fancy!
We bought that when we got a set of (or maybe after) Franciscan Hacianda Gold for our "good" dishes! Very fancy for us at the time!!!!
The Oneida Twin Star Betty Crocker set we got some with box tops or coupons or something as I remember in the early 60's and Franciscan Starburst was the "good" dishes! Funny how you remember these things! Talk about mid-century modern! ![]()

Since then, I bought a service for 12 of Oneida Astragal silverplate just after Oneida closed their plant in NY. Early 2000's? Bought all the serving pieces too and I've used them all.
I would love to get real sterling flatware for special days as the Oneida is showing it's age.
@Snowpuppy The older USA made Oneida deserves a medal for it's "metal!" That stuff faces up to eating, planting, dishwashing, etc. Everything but the garbage disposal!
How about doing a modern trend of miss-match for a few place settings of sterling? If you start looking as a hobby and fun, there are still some good buys out there, and fun tohave mismatched sets or random dessert spoons for instance!
And a little investment more than some "hobby" activities as well!
Never bad to have some solid assets! ![]()
