I don't know about types; I have two.  One is a George Forman and I can't recall the name of the other.  I've had both for a while, both were gifts.  Hubby makes grilled sandwhiches but I have used them to grill chicken, fish, veggies, even pineapple. French toast!  At one time, I used them a lot.  Two at the same time if we had guests over but I not so much lately.  Only because I don't have much counter space and "out of sight, out of mind".  Appreciate the reminder.

I could have written this post....thank's for reminding me that I have a George Foreman.  I think I'll make myself some soup & a grilled cheese and dig out my grill.

I used to have a pannini maker, but didn't use it often enough to keep it. I have a small kitchen and don't like appliances (except coffee maker) on my limited counter space. I didn't like the "smooshed" down grilled sandwiches (don't know how else to describe them).

I have a Krups model that I've had for probably 15 years or more.   I use it quite a bit.  I don't care for cold sandwiches (other than tomato sandwiches in the summer time).  And I use it more in the winter than in the summer.

I use my George Foreman grill for panini, too.  In fact, it's pretty much the only thing I use it for, but it does and excellent job.

Yes, I have a Cusinart. It opens up flat  to a grill or I can turn them over to use smooth grates. Makes fantastic grilled sammies and I use it for chicken breasts or steak, salmon, shrimp, burgers, even veggies to get the top and bottom grilled. One thing I would do different is get the model that had the waffle plates with it----
