Honey bees actually make honey for themselves - food for the winter months.  Thankfully they make more than they need so we get the surplus.  When taking some of their stock - you are not killing bees - that's just their job and they live just a short amount of time.

@fthunt

That is true! But vegans (and as I said some debate it due to reasons of being vegan) will not eat animal byproducts. It doesn’t mean killing the animal. Just like milking a cow doesn’t kill her, it’s a byproduct.

Vegans I know do not eat honey or use products containing honey.

My daughter is vegan and will not eat honey.  As said before...it is an animal by product.

Do you have a Publix grocery store? I purchase vegan cookies in their deli. These are also sold on Amazon.

My friend will not eat anything with "natural ingredients"  Some animal products may be included this.   Bugs are used in some things for coloring.

No, honey is not vegan.  As a substitute in recipes I use Agave nectar.  Bees are harmed in obtaining honey.

There is still debate on the honey issue with vegans.

Nope.

There’s no debate.

Honey is not vegan (vegansociety.com)

Vegans do not consume animals or animal byproducts.

Period.

I am sorry if I stated this wrong. When I said debate I didn’t mean within the vegan community. But there are people out there who disagree that honey is an animal by-product. I know it is, but I have spoken to people where there was no convincing them that it is.
