I think we'll be having 23 for Thanksgiving this year. . .I will make a couple pumpkin pies (several consider this THEIR FAVORITE!) and I always make some decorated sugar cookies. Our family's cranberry salad has a whipped cream topping and is my favorite Thanksgiving dessert! My brother sometimes brings an apple pie, sometimes a "harvest" pie (apples, cranberries, nuts & raisins). One family comes early and leaves early (so that they can also attend the "other side's" Thanksgiving) so I always try to have some appetizers, a vegetable tray and a summer sausage/cheese & crackers plate to tide them over.

If it were up to me it would be carrot cake, but I'm the only one who likes it. I suppose it will be a pie of some sort, mostly likely apple.
I love carrot cake. Never made one though. I tend to favor French apple tart than apple pie. I figure since the tart has no top crust, I can eat another slice. Mind games. Lol Enjoy your pie. Ala mode?
I'm a purist. I like mine plain and the only one I'll eat is my own. When I was a child I found the core in a store bought pie and that turned me off. I know what goes into my own, I can't count on what someone else puts into theirs. Hubby likes it ala mode, as does my mom, so I'll have a small carton of Haagendaaz vanilla on hand. I'd love the apple tart recipe if you have a special one.
housecat - that's how I got Yahooey. I watched the cartoon as a kid. Always thought the names were funny Yippee Yappy and Yahooey. Yahooey always came in last and crashed into walls as he entered. When I needed any kind of name - I used Yahooey. It has nothing to do with Yahoo as it predates it. I watched a clip on you tube years later and thought it doesn't hold up as The Flintstones.
The French Apple Tart came from a guest Leslie M on Baking with Julia. The tart isn't very sweet and contains mostly apples. I usually always cut down on sugar in dessert recipes. Maybe I cut only a smidge. Enjoy!

Yippee, Yappy, Yahooey! Thanks for the recipe. Your tart looks delicious

The 'Harvest Pie' sounds amazing. Who doesn't like chocolate cream pie. And for those making something with pumpkin. I want a slice of the pumpkin roll or pumpkin cheesecake. I grew up where desserts and sweets were not a daily occurance. So during the holidays I like to try something new. Sometimes it works (Banana Cream Pie - I channeled MaryAnn from Gilligan's Is) and sometimes it doesn't (Tres Leche Cake -OY sweet soup).
I want to try a Baked Brownie Alaska I saw on another thread next time. Who does tried and true and who wings it?

Housecat - you are welcome for the recipe. There could also be a video on the Julia series. I saw it on PBS. They repeat Julia Child's shows. As you can tell from the photo, I ran out of dough. My deep pie dish and tart pie is always in need of more dough. The standard recipe is always for a smaller pan. I use ATK pie recipe. What if I increase the flour another 1/4 cup and 1 TBS butter. Think they will do it? I scrimp for that tart and there was not a scrap. I used everything. See how thin it is? It was tasty but so scimpy looking. The apples distract you from the pitiful shell.

I'm no expert, Yahooey. I would make 1 1/2 x the recipe to be sure I had enough. You can always cut the extra into strips, shake on some cin sugar and bake them for a treat. If you have kids at your gathering they will like the cin strips.

I've found that it's better to just bring individual servings rather than tote a cake or several pies that may be hard to cut. I usually make pumpkin pie cake and cut it in pieces, an apple pie made in a jelly roll pan which I cut in pieces. I also usually make small cheesecakes and maybe a really rich and heavy pound cake sliced with lemon sauce to put over each piece. I usually try to have at least 5 different things to appeal to everyone. Doing it this way I also can keep some of each at home for us and don't have to deal with messy leftover desserts that often don't really look that great after cutting into them. Then each can easily take the leftovers home.

Great idea for the strips. I just didn't want to waste anything. Butter is so expensive. I'm hoping for a good sale right before Thanksgiving and stock up.
