Re: Desserts? How many? Let me count...Un, deux, trois

I cheated. I picked up a couple of pumpkin rolls when I was in Amish country. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

They are yummy, cream cheese filled with a dollop of buttercream frosting on top. Served with a bit of vanilla ice cream. Will probably add a pumpkin pie and perhaps an apple pie or cobbler.

Some here mentioned extending Thanksgiving dinner(s) thru the weekend. Wonderful idea since we have a birthday to celebrate that weekend as well!

My mom's rule was 6 people 6 to 8 desserts like pies or cakes. No, I am not kidding. Sometimes when we'd have about 15 people, she'd cut down to maybe 10 desserts.

Hi, Yahooey! We'll be having only one, since there are only five of us. If it were up to me it would be carrot cake, but I'm the only one who likes it. I suppose it will be a pie of some sort, mostly likely apple.

I love carrot cake. Never made one though. I tend to favor French apple tart than apple pie. I figure since the tart has no top crust, I can eat another slice. Mind games. Lol Enjoy your pie. Ala mode?

I'm a purist. I like mine plain and the only one I'll eat is my own. When I was a child I found the core in a store bought pie and that turned me off. I know what goes into my own, I can't count on what someone else puts into theirs. Hubby likes it ala mode, as does my mom, so I'll have a small carton of Haagendaaz vanilla on hand. I'd love the apple tart recipe if you have a special one. Smile

This is for you, Yahooey!

housecat - that's how I got Yahooey. I watched the cartoon as a kid. Always thought the names were funny Yippee Yappy and Yahooey. Yahooey always came in last and crashed into walls as he entered. When I needed any kind of name - I used Yahooey. It has nothing to do with Yahoo as it predates it. I watched a clip on you tube years later and thought it doesn't hold up as The Flintstones.

The French Apple Tart came from a guest Leslie M on Baking with Julia. The tart isn't very sweet and contains mostly apples. I usually always cut down on sugar in dessert recipes. Maybe I cut only a smidge. Enjoy!

Probably the pumpkin dump cake or Paula Deen's recipe for pumpkin gooey cake. Tough decision. I love anything pumpkin.

Housecat - for you. My first dessert in my first tart pan. I always thought a tart pan was fancy. I only did this for the first time either last year or early this year. I bought the pan because I saw the episode on the apple tart.

I haven't decided yet. It wouldn't be a real Thanksgiving at our house without pies. So, I always serve an apple pie and a squash pie. I have a nephew doesn't like any dessert except for vanilla birthday cake with white icing, from a bakery. So, I always get small cake for him. My niece always brings a platter of brownies. I want another, something lighter with fruit. A trifle of some sort, I think.

I only make one. One is plenty for us.

I think we are the oddity, however, as I notice more people here make a massive amount of courses and several desserts. I make four courses plus the one dessert, which is whatever the husband chooses.

I don't even do four courses, although technically it seems you're doing five with dessert. We just have our main course and dessert. No apps, I don't do salad a separate course but then we never have salad on Thanksgiving anyway. When I was a kid we always had appetizers but we also had the grandparents, aunts, uncles, all the cousins.

Was she sending most of that bounty home with the guests? That is a lot of desserts and I say this as an avid baker lol.
