I'm just curious about how many of you buy a dishwasher cleaner and run it in your dishwasher and how often do you do it? I just ran my dishwasher yesterday empty with affresh dishwasher cleaner tablet. Until years ago when we had our dishwasher fixed and repair person when he took it apart and pointed out what was underneath where you can't normally see he said you need to run  cleaner through your dishwasher to keep it clean. It will wash away all that build up. Until then.I never new you were supposed to do that.

Yes @Pooky1 , we do that regularly as well as the washing machine. We find it's the odor that is noticeable as we can't see the grime inside the appliance. But, it's nice to know the grime is cleaned, just feels better. Woman Happy

What dishwasher cleaner do you purchase?

You don't have to buy a special cleaner.  Using citric acid crystals will do the cleaning safely as well.  I just put the crystals in the dispenser or on the bottom of the dishwasher.  I use about 1 tablespoon.

I have before--not sure if it did anything and then tried a DYI cleaner--same result

I've never done that, but when I run the dishes, there is rarely a spec of food debris on them. It's an older machine and I want it to last.

I use Affresh once a month. I run my washing machine and dish washer through a cleaning cycle with the appropriate product, run a disposal cleaning foam through the garbage disposal, and give the cat his flea treatment at the same time.

They tell you that these products are septic safe, but I still wonder.

@Pooky1

Just read last night to run your dishwasher with a cup of vinegar to clean it.
