Curious About Fabric Potato Bags for Microwave

I guess I'm not understanding the purpose of the bags.

I actually dislike microwaved potatoes because the texture is different, more grainy.  Does the bag somehow solve this problem?  I didn't hear them say in the presentation and the item description just says you can cook them quicker, which one can already do without the bag.

There's many reviews on this type product on amazon which you might want to review; you can also go to one and ask your question - AI will answer it.

I don't know about these--just looked up the item, didn't watch presentation--but a neighbor gave me one made out of fabric (don't know where she got it) and I'm sure she didn't spend $10.

I use it for baked potatoes and sweet potatoes.  Wash, dry, 5 minutes per potato and they come out fine.  Never would have thought to buy one, but it was a great gift!

I dont care for them.  They were all the rage years ago.  They sort of steam the potato, not crispy at all.

Something else I have never heard of?

DH likes to make Rosemary roasted potatoes in the air fryer.

@Icegoddess look for "Potato Express" reviews on YouTube.

They were hot hot hot (potato) 10 years ago. 😉

You couldn't escape that informercial/TV ad.

I bought my mom one probably 5 or 6 years ago at Dollar Tree.

I don't think she's ever used it.

I'm surprised QVC has brought this item back from the "as seen on TV" graveyard.

Re: Curious About Fabric Potato Bags for Microwave

I haven't found Amazon's AI or Google's AI for that matter, to be much more than a regurgitator of information.  For Amazon, all I ever get when I ask a question, their AI just brings up customer reviews which may or may not answer my question.  Usually not.

I looked at a few of the myriad of the same type off-brand potato cookers on Amaon, and it's not mentioned about the texture.  That's the big thing for me.  I can't stand that grainy texture from the microwave.  People say they come out fine, but they never say they noticed a difference in texture in the first place, so it doesn't answer my question.

I use a fabric bag for microwaved sweet potatoes and love it. Wash and pop in the bag -- no need to dry the potatoes or pierce them. Potatoes come out smooth and tasty. The potatoes are steamed and the taste  and texture are more to my liking than other methods,

Re: Curious About Fabric Potato Bags for Microwave

I haven’t tried the store bought kind but I’ve made one myself using cotton fabric and Pellon Wrap-N-Zap for a friend
I rarely use the microwave for anything myself and don’t like microwave potatoes but she loved using the potato bag
It was very easy to make I make quilts so I just used scrap fabric and bought the batting for it
If anyone makes handmade ones they need to use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap to prevent a fire in the microwave
