When I was young (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) we had strawberry shortcake with cream of tartar biscuits instead of the cake or shells that they use today.

My God it was delicious!  Today if you asked for a cream of tartar biscuit they would 

think you were making it up!  I don't think anyone under 60 remembers them!

I couldn't eat it after having a meal, but I'd eat it as my meal.  It has fruit and dairy at least.

Cream of Tartar Biscuits, also called Baking Soda Biscuits, are still popular. There are many recipes online. I think that those sponge things are unappealing.

yeah, all places have baking powder biscuits.  KFC some country type restaurants. Easy to make not as good though as my yeast rolls.

Well, it looks delightful!  If it were a special occasion, then why not?  Or it could be shared.  I love anything with strawberries!

That doesn't make a dent in the calorie count of a lot of great desserts.  You can to better than that!!!!!  I know where to!  

Strawberry shortcake is a blessing of spring!
