Cornmeal Question...

Is cornmeal supposed to have black specks in it? I got ready to make cornbread with a boxed cornbread that my family likes and it had black specks. I opened 3 boxes and some had more than others.

We didn't have cornbread tonight. Do you think it was safe to eat?
