Yum, this looks good & easy, plus you can cook both corned beef & cabbage at the same time! Thanks!

Doesn't it get too greasy in all the fat in the bag, though?

Hi adore,
I am really, really glad you posted this recipe. You see, my husband is teaching himself how to cook and he LOVES roasting bags. Mind you, he rarely asks me for help and makes some horrible decisions like modifying a recipe he's never made before and it always comes out yucky. I get that he's really trying, but, my word!!!
I showed him this recipe and he's going to make it on Tuesday, because he just loves those bags and the recipe is so easy. Thanks so much!

No it does not, but if you wish you can also make your vegetables separately.

You are both so very welcome sfnative.
Both my husbands loved creating in the kitchen, so we always had fun making everything together when we were home, and not traveling for business, or pleasure. We still do!
Since your husband already loves the oven cooking bags he will adore this recipe and you will love it too.
My Phillip also loves those Reynolds Oven bags because they are fool proof, easy and the mess is contained....but more importantly the food becomes fork tender and gently steams rather than boils in the liquid which is what occurs when using the stove top.
Removing the salt from the corned beef twice by adding fresh water, boiling for a few minutes and repeating this procedure really helps., regardless of which final cooking method is chosen.
Happy St. Paddy's day to all......Enjoy and be creative in the kitchen, as cooking and baking, or any form relative to prep and cooking of foods should be educational, and enjoyable.

Just made this in advance for tomorrow.
Used the 1/2 cup of water mixed with 1/2 cup Guiness Stout and placed that into the oven bag and tied it.
I cooked a 4 lb point cut corned beef and simmered in water twice to remove excess salt, then placed everything into the Reynold's Oven Bag (Large Size). Cut 6 slits on top of the middle of the bag to allow the food to slowly steam until done.
I slow steamed it for almost 2 hours at 300 oven degrees.
Just tasted a piece of cabbage wedge, onion, carrot, and potato, and all the veggies were fork tender, and delicious.
The corned beef I tasted was perfect and the excess salt had leeched out with just a tiny hint of salt remaining......enough to flavor all the food streamed in the liquid.
Now I placed the veggies in their own lock and lock container, and same for the corned beef, and refrigerated them both.
Tomorrow I will slice the corned beef in very thin slices and add a little of the corned beef broth from the veggies over the corned beef and vegetables and slowly reheat in the microwave convection oven.
This was really delicious and the excess grease and fat was also simmered out when I simmered the c.b. in clean water twice for a few minutes each time.
The food in the Reynold's Oven Bag did not reflect grease at all, and the liquid was still clear and flavorful.
I am sure some grease will rise to the top when refrigerated and can be removed carefully, but that overall very greasy look and taste was not evident in the food after leeching out the excess salt.

I wish I had used these bags. I wrapped up the meat in foil and folded it well so I thought and all of the juice seeped out all over the baking sheet so my delicious topping I put on it all drained out, it did taste good but was so disappointed what happened to the juice. Next year I will get the bag.

That was the reason I posted the Reynold's Oven Bag Corned Beef recipe so the food and juices would be contained in the bag with no big mess to clean afterwards.
Sorry you encountered that problem. It must have flooded the pan because if you also used cabbage wedges in with your corned beef, they also release a lot of juice.
Those oven bags are great all year round for many type of oven baked meals.
Hope next years Corned beef and veggies are a success, using the Reynold's Oven Bag.
