Corn starch substitution question...

Has anyone ever used cornstarch as a substitute when making homemade gravy? I am doing a beef roast and just discovered that I am almost to the bottom of my white flour, but I googled and discovered that you can use cornstarch as a replacement. I have never, so I wondered if anyone here has(?)
