Has anyone else bought the Cooks Essentials Egg Cooker? I just got mine, haven't used it yet, but something just doesn't seem right.

This egg cooker will cook up to six eggs at a time. It comes with a measuring cup marked on three sides for soft, medium, or hard boiled eggs. Each of the marking are numbered from one to six. The instructions say to use the marks to determine how much water to add to the cooker. For example, if cooking six eggs, you fill the cup to the number six mark, if cooking one egg, you fill the cup up to the number one mark. Then pour the water into the cooker.

Seems simple but the markings look backwards. The measuring cup is marked from 1 to 6 starting with number 1 near the top of top of the cup and number 6 near the bottom of the cup. This means that to cook one egg, you would use nearly a full cup of water and to cook six eggs, you would use very little water.

Does it really take more water to cook one egg than it does to cook six?

Less water for more eggs and more water for less eggs because of water displacement.

Hey, Grizz, I had the same brain freeze. Thanks, Caffeina, for the explanation--I still don't understand, though, because the eggs are held in a rack above the water, not displacing it at all. However, I started using this egg cooker anyway, and it always seems to work just right. I puncture the hole in the large end of the egg and put it in the rack with the small end down. Use it often! And you can't beat the price, after all.

Yesterday we got a Henrietta the Hen egg cooker and we are going to fire it up tonight. From the literature, it seems to work just like your egg cooker. I'm on a high protein diet, trying to incorporate more hard coked and soft cooked eggs. We have no problem making hard cooked eggs but soft cooked ones are trickier. We're hoping Henrietta helps.

Guess I'll try it and see how it comes out. Have you tried poaching eggs in it yet?

We did six eggs on hard cooked in our Henrietta. All was good. They were done to perfection with fluffy centers. Good luck with your egg cooker.

I have one that has to be at least 30 years old. YES and it still works wonderfully. I put 8 eggs in, it can take more but I don't do it, and I never fill the water level differently no matter how many eggs and that water level is very low. Perfect eggs every time. I am tempted to buy the new stuff but why? Just wanted to let you know...this is not new. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I did poach eggs. Meh. They aren't really poached, exactly, and it's kinda messy. I'm sticking with soft boiled. I'll keep having my poached eggs when I go out for breakfast--I love a nice juicy ground beef patty, medium well, with two poached eggs on top!

Yes, it really does take more water as you don't want the cooker to boil dry!
