I enjoy watching cooking shows (not the reality competition shows but the traditional how-to type), and there is one thing that grosses me out to no end:  when chefs dig into raw food while they have rings on their fingers.

For example, wearing a wedding set while hand mixing meatloaf mix with raw meat and egg, etc.  Or  while breading raw chicken.  All I can think about is how gross that is, both from whatever germs are on the ring getting into the food, and also who knows what from raw meat will get into the tiny crevices on the jewelry and multiply in there.

I realize I will never be eating this food, so I guess it shouldn't bother me, but WHY not just take them off? Some of them do, or don't wear rings at all on the show, but I see it many times...

I agree.  The other thing that bothers me is when they pick up items with their bare hands and put it on the plate, even salad greens.  Yes I eat out occasionally.  I just don't think about what goes on in the kitchen when I do.

I do not ever take off my wedding ring. It is a very thin plain gold band with a millgrain edge. I wear it when cooking and at all times. I do hardly ever wear my engagement ring because I like to keep it clean and sparkly.

I too, cannot stand to see someone plate a meal, using his hands.  I would not want to eat it.  Also, when someone wearing gloves is touching things in  a deli area, say, & then proceeds to slice meat or cheese, how have the gloves prevented possible contamination?  My DH says I'm too fussy.

I use gloves to mix meatloaf and if I am going to plate with my hands I always put gloves on.  I think they probably do to restaurants also (at least nice ones)..

I hate when they are working with chicken in bare hands...then touch other foods without washing their hands...

Having rings on while mixing meatloaf ...etc grosses me out, too...I always took my rings off when i was digging into food stuff...I didn't want my rings messed up...

I like watching Wolgang on the other network. But some of his bad habits are a turn off. He's always rubbing and touching his nose, then handling the food. And double dipping sometimes when he's tastin on air.  I do like watching him though.

I enjoy watching him, too....but he sure has some very unsanitary habits...

I have a feeling that a lot of people in this forum do not eat out much...
