Cooking rice in a pressure cooker?

Okay I see it has a "rice" button to press, but do I rinse the rice first and is it equal parts rice to water or do I need extra water?

Thank you

What does it say in the book that came with the machine? I always check that first.

You should be able to find the product manual online, using the model #.

Re: Cooking rice in a pressure cooker?

I hope someone that has actually made rice in the PC chimes in.  I have a rice setting on my Instant Pot but I have never tried it either.  I'm sure there is info on  it if I would google or look in the recipe book.

Actually hands on knowledge from someone that has actually used it is nice!

Regarding my IP, I love that cooker.  However it also has a chili setting and my chili burns on it every time.  I've tried it 3 times shortning the cooking time each time and it still burns.  So I wouldn't recomend using that feature.

Re: Cooking rice in a pressure cooker?

Rinse your rice until the water runs clear.  This removes all the extra starch from it that will cause it to over boil and make a mess.  This also keeps the rice separate.  In cultures where rice is ate at every meal, they have a rice rinsing bowl that has a little ridge that keeps the rice from pouring out with the rinse water.  Look up a youtube video on how to wash rice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k9ItS0QVTc  This video is by Zojirushi, a well known rice and bread maker company based in Asia.  They know their stuff.  Generally your pot came with a rice scoop, which is 3/4c of rice versus the traditional 1c measure.  3/4c of rice to 1c of cold water.  Youtube also has videos on using the rice feature on your pressure cooker (PC) if you put in the make and model.  It will cook perfect each time.  When it shuts off, fluff with a fork and close the lid to finish the steaming process.  It will make for loose, fluffy rice each time.

Re: Cooking rice in a pressure cooker?

You need less water than you might normally use. For brown rice I use 1:1.25 rice to water ratio, 24 minutes with 10 minute release. For white rice 1:1.5 and use the rice setting. That's with an Instantpot.
