I have a waffle iron very similar to this one:

Mine isn't a double though, anyway, how do you clean the inside thoroughly? The plates don't pop out and you can't submerge it in water. Is there an easier way than what I've been doing? It's getting a little non stick spray build up in there, I know it would come right off if I could just soak it, but that's not an option. Thanks in advance!
